City Councilmember Tim McOsker, local residents, and City leaders cut the ribbon on the new Parkway Promenade Park on January 20 to unveil a special new addition to the San Pedro community.
Pouring rain moved the celebration under a canopy as the gathered group touted the outdoor space, which features a flexible plaza for food trucks, picnic tables and seating benches, a shade canopy with swings, a children’s play area, adult exercise equipment, and outdoor game tables. The project was done in partnership with many City departments and required more than a year of construction. McOsker provided brief remarks during the event alongside CIFD General Manager Abigail Marquez.
Parkway Promenade Park is a collaboration between the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, the Port of Los Angeles, L.A. Council District 15, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Funding included nearly $1 million allocated from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which is administered by CIFD, providing grant management support for construction partners. CDBG was created by Congress to be flexible and meet the needs of low and moderate-income citizens.
