Community Investment for Families Department General Manager Abigail R. Marquez joined Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez and the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) on October 25 for the 13th annual Food Day celebration at Los Angeles City Hall.

With the theme of "Building Bridges to Healthy Food Access," the event featured healthy food vendors and exhibitions for the public. CIFD is committed to ensuring all communities have access to the quality food they deserve.

"We know that food insecurity is not just about hunger; it’s a barrier to opportunity. It stands in the way of families achieving an empowered future," GM Marquez said. "We also believe that providing access to food is not just about feeding families — it’s an essential entry point to connecting people with other critical resources like housing, job training, and financial literacy."

Food Day is a national movement dedicated to promoting healthier diets and advocating for food policy reform. Each October, communities across the U.S. gather to raise awareness and push for lasting change in the food system. In Los Angeles, Food Day 2024 will serve as a platform to bring together policy leaders, community organizers, urban farmers, small business owners, and public health experts to engage in conversations to build a more inclusive and resilient food ecosystem.
