Community Investment for Families Department General Manager Abigail R. Marquez was presented the "Heart of the Community" Award at the 17th Annual Heart of the Family Awards "Sneaker Gala" on October 24 at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
Marquez was honored alongside Mayor Bass who received the "Heart of the Family" Award.
The CIFD General Manager has spent 20 years working for the City of Los Angeles and advancing anti-poverty programs and policies. She was appointed GM of CIFD in 2021, and her role also includes being responsible for the planning and administration of the City's Consolidated Plan, which includes $120 million in federal funds allocated annually to support capital projects and the department's social service delivery systems.
"As the daughter of immigrant parents who are now proud U.S. citizens, this “Heart of LA” award holds a very special and personal meaning for me – it feels like coming full circle," Marquez said.
"While my roles and responsibilities have evolved over my 20 years in public service, one thing has remained constant: my commitment to investing in and promoting opportunities for our youth and families."
Under Marquez, CIFD advances policies and programs that respond to the holistic needs of communities that address food and housing insecurity, build economic stability, and help create opportunities for the next generation.
